On the beginning of January 2009 Korean owner of Hanpol deserted the plant
without paying workers December salaries. Moreover there was nobody to
issue necessary documents. All of them turned up in difficult formal
situation. Workers Initiative and Sierpien’80 unions offered help and the
crew will receive legal help.
In the past Hanpol was owned by Daewoo Electronics group. In March 2008 the
name was changed for Hanpol Electronics. Myung Bok Lee became a new boss of
the company. The workers were producing components for picture tube TV
sets. After New Year workers came to the plant and boss was gone. With no
traces left.
Bacause of pressure and one-day occupation of the plant workers recovered
part of their salaries but the struggle continues. Currently they organise
series of demonstrations. Workers Initiative trade union calls for
financial support for Hanpol workers.
